University of Hartford
The University of Hartford offers an American Bar Association (ABA)-approved) Paralegal Studies Program designed to prepare students for careers as paralegals. The program provides three educational pathways:
- Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Paralegal Studies: This online program requires a total of 120 credits, combining general education courses and paralegal studies courses. It offers significant opportunities for expanding work in paralegal studies through electives.
- Associate of Science (A.S.) in Paralegal Studies: Designed for students entering college for the first time or with fewer than 60 academic credits, this online program requires completion of 60 credits, including general education and paralegal studies courses.
- Paralegal Certificate: Intended for students who have a minimum of 60 undergraduate credits (30 of which must be in the liberal arts), this online certificate program can be completed in about one year and requires 19 credits focused on paralegal coursework.
The curriculum emphasizes practical legal skills, including legal research, writing, civil litigation procedures, and ethics. Students are also required to complete an internship, providing hands-on experience in a legal setting.
